Tiny Superheroes

Superheroes all lined up,
Carefully arranged by tiny dimpled hands.
Ready to save the day.
Bringing gap-toothed smiles to chubby toddler cheeks.
I wonder, as I pass by,
Where his imagination carries him?
What dreams wait for their naptime meeting?
What wonders lie hidden from all but tiny minds?
Does he know that he is the real hero?
Joy is his superpower.
His giggles bring the sunshine.
Strong little arms wrapped around my neck,
Warm the bitter cold trapped inside.
With every “Mama” whispered,
The guilt inside me starts to fade.
His love is reviving the peace I lost,
A soothing balm to my aching soul.
He carries superheroes everywhere he goes.
All these heroes he adores,
Yet he is the one who saved me.
