Friday Faves

Hey y’all! We’re back at it this week with another round of “Friday Faves”! I decided to keep this one short and sweet. So, before I get lost down a rabbit hole of thoughts (as usual with me), here we go!

Podcast

I’m recommending an entire Podcast to y’all this week. It’s called “Annie and Eddie Keep Talking” and my gracious, it is fantastic! First of all, I love Annie F. Downs (she is the 1st person I want to hang out with if I get the chance). She is full of wisdom, so much fun, and she always has the deepest, funniest conversations with people.

Focus Hannah. Ok, so as I was saying this podcast originally began at the very beginning of quarantine on Annie’s main podcast (That Sounds Fun with Annie F. Downs) where every single morning her and her friend Eddie Kaufholz would record their conversations about anything and everything. It was a means of getting through this very hard, very new season by having something fun and encouraging to look forward to each morning.

It was such a hit they turned it into it’s very own show! I promise you this is such a joy to listen to, I laugh so hard through most of the episodes, but there is always a little bit of “serious conversation” intertwined within.

Please go give it a listen and treat yourself to a laugh this weekend! 🙂

Music

Just a couple songs I have had on repeat this week. I mostly listen to music on Pandora, it’s just the easiest way to listen to a wide variety; plus I can “thumbs up” songs and it saves them so I can share them with you!

Bible Verse

“But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence. They are like trees planted along a riverbank, with roots that reach deep into the water. Such trees are not bothered by the heat or worried by long months of drought. Their leaves stay green, and they never stop producing fruit.” Jeremiah 17:7-8 (NLT)

I’m studying through Jeremiah this summer and let me just say, it is hard and heavy. The Israelites have openly turned against God and are worshipping other idols and false gods and Jer is the chosen messenger to relay the coming judgement for their sin. There is a lot of tears and heartbreak and anger from both God for his people, and the Israelites for themselves.

BUT! Then I came across these verses this morning and what an incredible promise for us to cling to! When we stop trusting in ourselves and our own plans for our lives and start trusting in God, we become like a tree planted by the water. We can dig our roots deep into the word, soaking in the streams of living water, abiding in His presence. And when the drought comes, (the lost job, the diagnosis, the financial crisis) we will not wither away. It will get tough, we will cry and question and feel heartbroken, but God promises us that we will survive this.

I don’t know if you needed this reminder as much as I did today, but I hope it encourages you to keep abiding today, keep praying, keep hoping in Jesus.
